Trademark Registration – Classification Guide Class 3 in Japan

I’ve decided to start selling cosmetics.
First of all, I’ve prepared an impactful product name and logo for my new “face pack”, and I’d like to register it as a trademark to prevent others from copying it.

Then don’t forget to specify class 3, which contains “cosmetics”!
There are many beauty-related products in class 3. Please check it out.

Considering the future product development of make-up products, I think it would be better to designate other goods in class 3.
If they are included in the same class, the cost will be the same.
But I wonder if “colored contact lenses” can also be designated in class 3…?

Class 3 is a category of cosmetics and detergents.

Category 3 mainly includes cosmetics, soaps, dentifrices and detergents.

It may be easier to understand if you think of products like daily necessities sold in drugstores.

I see, even if it’s related to beauty or makeup, “tools” and “equipment” are included in different categories, right?

Yes, we need to designate different categories for these “tools”.

The ingredients are the same as perfumery, but the PURPOSES are different

• peppermint oils [material for chemical preparation] [class 1]
• mint for pharmaceutical purposes [class 5]
• mint for confectionery [class 30]

Other goods NOT included in Class 3.

• deodorants, other than for human beings or for animals [class 5]
• collyrium [class 5]
• contact lenses [class 9]
• colored contact lenses [class 9]

“Colored contact lenses” are not included in class 3 !

File a trademark application in Japan, designating goods in Class 3!
